The Smith County Sheriff’s Office wants to make Smith County residents aware of a phone scam that has recently been brought to their attention.
The Smith County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a scam in which the caller pretended to be Junior Fields, one of the department’s officers.
Back in February, a similar scam was reported using the name of Sergeant Steve Babcock.
This is the voicemail recording that that scammer is using: “You’ve reached Junior Fields from the Smith County Sheriff’s Department warrants division. I’m either away from the phone right now or on the line here with another issue. If this is an emergency, hang up and dial 911. If you leave your name, number, and the nature of your call, either I or someone from my division will give you a call back as soon as possible. Thank you. Have a nice day.”
