A large area showers and thunderstorms is working its way north-northeast into our area.

HRRR through midnight:

We’ll see on and off (more “on” than “off”) showers and thunderstorms from around noon through at least 4 PM, possibly later. On the back edge of the rain is a stronger area of rain and storms that we’ll have to watch for severe weather potential. It’s a very low threat, but there is a possibility that a cell could become strong and produce damaging wind gusts. There’s a also a very, very low tornado threat that we’ll mention because it’s there, but it’s nothing to be too concerned with.

In addition to the minor severe weather threat, winds will be very gusty through the early evening hours. As stated at the top of this post, we are under a Wind Advisory through 6 PM this evening. Wind gusts of 35 mph+ are likely at times, so make sure your outdoor stuff that’s prone to being blown around is secured.

Also, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect through 9 PM. All of the rain we’ve received over the past week has made the ground super-saturated. Any additional rain we see today could cause water to pile up quickly in places where it can’t drain into the ground easily, with flash flooding being a possibility. Watch for ponding on roadways this afternoon and evening. If you come across water of an unknown depth, remember: turn around, don’t drown.

A cold front is what’s driving these storms. Once it passes, our temperatures will finally begin to fall down to those colder, Winter-like levels so many of you have been begging for. Those winter clothes you received for Christmas and have been dying to wear? You will finally be able to wear them!
