FAQ

Who is eligible to participate?

We welcome any male or female special needs baseball players, ages 5 and up, with all types of developmental disabilities such as autism, down syndrome, aspergers, physical disabilities, etc. Anyone can play-from those who are highly functioning to those who have never participated in sports and cannot swing a bat, catch a ball, or round the bases by themselves.

How is the game played and is it safe?

The game is a form of t-ball using extra soft baseballs, light weight bats, and batting helmets. The teams are divided by age and ability. If a player needs a buddy, it is the buddy’s responsibility to help them as much or as little as needed to bat, run the bases, and play in the field.

Is the league competitive or non-competitive? Are scores kept?

There will be no scores kept, no outs assigned and everyone bats each inning. Games will typically last one and half hours.

Where will the games be played?

Games will be played at the Smith County High School Baseball Complex. Teams will be responsible for cleaning up trash after their games.

What do the players need to furnish?

Players will receive a hat and uniform shirt at the beginning of the season. They are to be worn for each game with grey baseball pants. Each player will supply their own baseball pants. Each player must have a batting helmet that fits. Some equipment will be available to borrow, but typically players supply their own.

How much does it cost?

There will be a $25.00 per player fee. This will help cover miscellaneous expenses and to provide awards.

Who provides transportation?

Parents will provide transportation to and from games. If there is an emergency, contact the coach or myself and possibly other arrangements can be made.

If you have any questions, you may contact Lisa Hembree at 615-418-5229.
