The nightcap game of the June 11th Smith County Senior League action featured the Orioles and the Red Sox. This game was for third place in the standings as the winner would have the tie breaker. The Orioles took advantage of the Red Sox being down a key player as they poured it on in this one.
Orioles’ pitcher Barrett Briggs tossed a complete game on 65 pitches. The crafty, 13-year-old pitcher worked around four early hits in his five innings of work. Briggs struck out three while walking only two.
The Orioles offensive attack was paced by some timely hits, however they took advantage of many Red Sox errors. Barrett Briggs led the way for the Orioles at the plate. Briggs had a pair of triples while scoring one run. The Orioles big inning came in the third when they pushed across six runs on three hits, two walks, and an error. Teammates Nate Johnson, Jim Anstis, and Kobe Jones rounded out the O’s attack as they each had a hit. Johnson’s being a triple in the third.
The Red Sox offense was stunned by Briggs. The Sox were lucky to manage four hits in the contest. Joey Parliment paced the Red Sox with two hits, a single and a triple. Chris McKinley and Buster King rounded out the attack for the Sox as each of them had a hit.
