Ms. Sandra Duke Dickerson age 74 of Gordonsville was welcomed into her eternal home on Wednesday morning February 12, 2025. She was pronounced deceased at 12:46 a.m. by Gentiva Hospice of Livingston who had been lovingly assisting the family with her care during Sandra’s final days.
Bro. Shane Smith will officiate at the 3 p.m. Friday afternoon February 14th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home and burial will follow with her brothers and parents in the Beasley-Brooks section at the Dion Springs Cemetery.
The Dickerson family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage only on Friday February 14th from 12 noon until the 3 p.m. funeral services.
She was the only daughter of four children of the late Jack Gentry Duke who died at the age of 67 on December 2, 1986 and Mildred Kathleen Beal Duke who died at the age of 62 on November 29, 1986 and was born Sandra Faye Duke in Carthage on September 7, 1950 and was reared in the Wilburn Hollow in the Riddleton Community.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, K. Wilson “K. W. Duke who died March 12, 2022 at the age of 79 and David Addison Duke who died February 27, 2004 at the age of 62 and also preceded in death by the father of her children, Hal Terry Dickerson Sr. who died at the age of 60 on May 19, 2008.
Ms. Dickerson was a member of the 1968 graduating class at Smith County High School where she majored business education, her freshman year she was class secretary, in the Latin club, and in addition to being in the Junior play cast she was active in the music program having been in the chorus, fall festival, spring festival the sophomore, junior years and was in the pep club.
Having married while a student, the statement made in her senior annual was; “Love is as strong as death”.
As an accomplished musician, Sandra loved sharing her music through her incredible artistic gifts of playing the guitar and singing. Her greatest joy was found in time spent with her children and grandchildren.
A product of humble beginnings and many obstacles to overcome, she was a beacon of strength and perseverance in the face of any setback.
Always finding grace and joy in her love for her savior, she was living proof that there is no earthly sorrow that heaven cannot heal.
She was saved at an early age and was baptized into the full fellowship of the Maces Hill Missionary Baptist Church, and after moving to the Rock City Community transferred her membership by letter to the Plunketts Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving is her son, Terry Dickerson and wife Frankie Williams Dickerson of Gordonsville, her daughter, Kristy Taylor and husband Troy of South Carthage; four grandchildren, Anthony Taylor and wife Brooke, Jake Taylor, Mary Kate Taylor, and Mallory (Jack Pitman) Dickerson; one great-grandchild, Hallie Taylor; brother, Jacky Duke of the Pleasant Shade Community, and sister-in-law, Joyce Watson Duke of South Carthage.
The Dickerson family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
