Mrs. Valeda Joyce James Evans passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at her home. She was 83 years old.
Born Valeda Joyce Thomas of New Middleton, TN, to the late; Norman Thomas and Ruth Tubb Thomas, both of Hickman, TN. She was also preceded in death by Husband of Fourteen Years; William Haden Evans on February 22, 2015. Hayden and Joyce were high school sweet hearts who drifted apart after graduation, and fifty years later were reunited at their high school reunion and were married. It was quite the love story.
Joyce was also married to the late Billy Douglas James of Hickman, TN, who preceded her in death on January 28, 1984; also a marriage of great love. Two Brothers; Billy Thomas and Kenneth Thomas and One Sister; Winnie Helen Walker also precede her in death along with Two Children; William Randall “Randy” James on November 19, 2012 and Pam Tedrow Simmons on January 16, 2012.
Mrs. Evans is survived by Daughter; Ruth E. Wheeler and Grandson whom she raised; Sheldon Butler, both of Gordonsville, TN. Daughter-in-Law; JoAnn James of Carthage, TN. Four Stepchildren; Boyce Evans of Clinton, TN, John Evans of Clinton, TN, Anne Moyer of VA, and Michael James of Knoxville, TN. Eight Grandchildren; Leslie Pope, Lisa Flemmons, April Bush, Michelle Cothron, Robert Tedrow, Joyce Ann Tedrow, Henry Butler, and Randy Wheeler. Sixteen Great Grandchildren, One Great-Great Grandchild, and Sister-in-law; Nell Thomas of Hickman, TN, also survive.
She was a longtime member of Carthage Church of Christ and also Clinton Church of Christ. She was devoted to serving God and living by His word. Joyce was also a 1950 graduate of Gordonsville High School and Draughons Junior College. She worked for Bank of America in California and was longtime Secretary for James T. “Pete” Watts Construction Company and Angus Farms. Joyce will be sadly missed by all that knew her.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Evans are scheduled to be conducted from the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 1PM with Darrell Glenn and Edward L. Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Gordonsville Cemetery.
Visitation with the Evans family will be held at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes only on Friday from 11AM until service time at 1PM
