Priscilla “Pat” “Patty” Selman Owensby Smith was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was centered around hard work, family, and the people she loved.
Throughout her life, Pat was a hardworking and dedicated woman. She worked at the Dunlap Shirt Factory and the Hartsville Nuclear Plant. She was also a business owner, owning and operating Granny’s Grocery in Riddleton, TN and was a cake decorator at Red Foods and Bi-Lo Grocery Stores in East Flat Rock, NC and Chattanooga, TN. She was known for her strong work ethic and also worked for 20 years as a drywall finisher mostly in Cookeville, TN before her retirement. Whatever job she took on, she gave it her all and took pride in providing for and caring for her family.
While Pat accomplished much throughout her working life, her greatest joy was her family. She cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and treasured the memories they made together. Her love, strength, and dedication to her family will continue to live on through the generations.
Pat was preceded in death by her mother, Tressie Elora (Perkins) Selman, her father, Harry O. Selman, and her sisters, Norma Jean Payne, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (Payne) Layne.
She leaves behind her beloved daughters, Tammy (Billy) Shoemake, Lisa Owensby, and Carla (Terry) Jones.
She is also survived by her brother, Larry Joe Strange, and sister, Ellen Marie (Selman) Seals, along with her grandchildren: Brian (Crystal) Owensby, Victoria (Jason) Suthard, Rebecca (Justin) Overby, Zach (Shelby Humes) Felts, Abby (Josh Lindsey) Felts, Tyler Jenkins, Brandi Jenkins, Bronson (Katelyn) Henry, and Brayden (Heath) Henry.
Pat’s legacy continues through her many great-grandchildren, including Saoirse Jenkins, Torance Thomas, Tierran Patterson, Tilliee Patterson, Hudson Felts McCormick, Jack Overby, Jordan Overby, Theodore Lindsey, Bailee (Noah) Cole, Tessa (Brian) Owensby, Jaxon Suthard, and two soon to be great-great grandchildren, Kora Jane Tempelton due November, and Baby Cole due June 2027 along with her extended family and loved ones.
Pat will be remembered for her strong spirit, hardworking nature, and, most of all, the love she had for her family. Though she is no longer with them, the memories she created and the love she gave will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Her family was her greatest treasure, and her love will live on through every generation.
Rest peacefully, Mom. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A graveside service will be held on a later date to be announced. Priscilla’s ashes will be laid to rest at the grave of her adored mother, Tressie Selman, at Rankin Cemetery in Dunlap, TN.
