Mrs. Joyce Gibbs

Mrs. Joyce Gibbs of South Carthage died at 10:41 a.m. Thursday morning April 5, 2018 at the Concordia Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where she had resided since March 7th of this year. She was 83.

Eld. Kenny Hensley and Mrs. Gibbs pastor, Bro. Scott Ezell, officiated at the 1 p.m. Monday afternoon April 9th funeral services from the Carthage Church of the Nazarene. Burial followed in the Smith County Memorial Gardens with Bro. Jamie Duke officiating.

The only daughter of the late Ferd Roscoe Hindsley who died at the age of 77 on January 25, 1986 and Annie Ada Hewitt who died at the age of 30 on May 3, 1940, she was born Joyce Aline Hindsley in Carthage on February 25, 1935.

Two brothers preceded her in death, Bob Hindsley and Cecil Hindsley.

Mrs. Gibbs was also preceded in death by a son, Michael David “Mickey” Gibbs who died January 10, 2015 at the age of 62.

Mrs. Gibbs was saved at an early age in a Nazarene Tent Revival and attended the Carthage Church of the Nazarene.

She was a beloved nurse tech and in her early career worked at the old Smith County Health Care Center and her career ended as a longtime nurse at the former Carthage General Hospital.

She is survived by six children, Debbie Murray and husband Jerry of the Flatrock Community, Melinda Gibbs of the Hogans Creek Community, Glenda Arnold, Mark Gibbs and Jeremy Gibbs all of Carthage, Lori Bryant and husband Thomas of Rock Hill, South Carolina.
