
Mrs. Janel Faun Myers Cowan, age 74 of Hickman, died Monday afternoon, December 5 at Mabry Healthcare and Rehab Center where she had been a patient since September of 2020.
Mrs. Cowan was born April 25, 1948 in Akron, OH, a daughter of the late Frankie Brown Myers and Fred A. Myers. She is also preceded in death by the father of her son.
Her thrust in life was to help people in any way she could to make their lives more improved. After graduating from Smith County High School in 1966, she was employed by Dr. Frank T. Rutherford and Dr. Rick Rutherford in many phases of their clinical careers from 1966 until 2009 when she experienced a serious brain aneurysm. Her health had gradually declined since then.
In 1991 she married Ron Cowan of Hickman, TN who has been a most devoted husband, who survives. Janel loved animals and enjoyed her last few years on their lovely Hickman farm.
Other survivors include a son, Mike Hughes and wife Nicki of South Carthage two grandchildren, Devin Hughes and wife Krystal of South Carthage, Lauren Hughes of South Carthage, two stepsons, two great-grandchildren, Michelle and Bailey, two brothers: Hollie Myers of Hartsville and Morris (Glenda) Myers of Chestnut Mound. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Cowan is at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where her service will be conducted on Friday afternoon, December 9 at 1:00 PM. Bro. Russ Stephens will officiate. Mark Medley will deliver the eulogy. Interment in the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation at the Carthage Chapel will begin on Thursday afternoon from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and on Friday from 10:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM.
