
A loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother has died at the age of 89.
Mrs. Garnetta Hiett, the fifth of nine children, passed from her earthly journey to her heavenly reward at 11:40 a.m. Friday morning July 12, 2024 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where she had been residing only a few weeks.
The family held funeral services on Monday afternoon July 15th from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home with her former pastor Bro. Scott Ezell officiating assisted by her current pastor, Bro. Johnathan Rich. Burial will follow beside her husband at the Pickett Hiett Cemetery in the Monoville Community.
Born Garnetta Rae Brown March 27, 1935 in the Hilham Community of Overton County, she was one of three sons and six daughters of the late Rayford Lurton Brown who died October 19, 1989 at the age of 79 and Floye Mai Savage Brown who died February 6, 1996 at the age of 87.
The seven siblings preceding her in death were John Robert Brown who died October 27, 2013 at the age of 86, Richard Glen Brown who died December 26, 2003 at the age of 64, Alice Joy Coffman who died October 27, 2021 at the age of 87, Olean Brown Sevier who died February 25, 1997 at the age of 65, Zelma Pauline Brown Richmond Green who died April 5, 2011 at the age of 82, and infant sister who died at birth and Lois Dean Brown Coffman who died October 30, 2002 at the age of 65.
Mrs. Hiett was united in marriage on December 21, 1954 to Monoville Community native Robbie Joe “Red” Hiett by Justice of the Peace, Russell Erulin. Mr. Hiett preceded her in death at the age of 50 on June 24, 1982 following only twenty seven years of marriage.
Mrs. Hiett was saved at the age of 35 in 1970 and was a member of the Carthage Church of the Nazarene.
She retired in 1993 from the Carthage Shirt Corporation following a long career there as in the pressing department.
Mrs. Hiett was friendly, outgoing, had a contagious smile, and made friends easily.
She adored her family and was treasured by them all.
Surviving are her four daughters, Betty Hiett Skeen of the Riddleton Community, Jackie Hiett Harville and Lisa Hiett both of Carthage, Jodi Hiett Coleman and husband Steve of the Buffalo Valley Community; son, Robby Hiett also of Carthage; brother, Waymon Brown of the Popes Hill Community, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
