Mrs. Evelyn Mofield Washer

Mrs. Evelyn Mofield Washer of Gordonsville died Saturday afternoon November 5, 2016 at her Maple Street home under the care of Avalon Hospice of Cookeville. The 79 year old Mrs. Washer died from complications from strokes.

Mrs. Washer is at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where her service will be conducted on Tuesday afternoon, November 8, at 1:00 PM. Eld. Junior Dickerson will officiate. Interment in the Gordonsville Cemetery. Active pallbearers, Aaron Washer, Scott Washer, Bo Torrence, Cole Farmer.

Visitation will begin on Monday afternoon from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM.

Born Evelyn Jeanette Mofield on March 16, 1937 in the Rawls Creek Community, she was one of four daughters and three sons of the late Lee Mofield who died September 3, 1985 at the age of 87 and Lena Jenkins Mofield who died January 21, 1970 at the age of 64.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Morris Mofield who died at birth on September 6, 1945, Marvin Royce “Trigger” Mofield who died at the age of 70 on October 24, 2004 and John Martin “ John M.” Mofield who died at the age of 87 on October 28, 2012.

She was united in marriage on June 26, 1970 to Dyers Branch Community native Jessie Mitchell Washer. He died accidently on September 7, 1995 at the age of 52.

Mrs. Washer was a longtime employee of the former Carthage Shirt Corporation.

She was a member of the Plunketts Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Rock City.

Surviving are three children, Paula Mofield of the Tanglewood Community, Mitch Washer and wife Jennifer, Jessica Washer Hunter and husband Jimmy all of Gordonsville; sisters, Faye Mofield of the Rawls Creek Community, Linda Watson and husband Jimmy, Charlene Mofield Bass and husband Charles all of the Tanglewood Community; sister-in-law, Charlene Holleman Mofield of the Rock City Community; six grandchildren, Aaron and Scott Washer, Bo Torrence and wife Sara, Alyssa Torrence, Faith Torrence, Cole Farmer; great-grandson, Jaxon Torrence.
