Mr. Glenn Gibbs, age 79, of South Carthage, TN, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 at St. Thomas West in Nashville.
Mr. Gibbs was born May 27, 1936 in Sullivans Bend, TN, the Son of the late; Tom Gibbs and Lela Dedmon. He was also preceded in death by Son; Michael Litchford, Sister; Louise Grisham, and Brother; Ray Allen Gibbs.
Mr. Gibbs was a 1954 graduate of Smith County High School. He worked at the Carthage Shirt Factory, Overstreet & Hughes, Mueller Brass and as a farmer. Mr. Gibbs married Thelma Abney. He served the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church as a Deacon. Mr. Gibbs preached on the radio during the Old Fashion Gospel Hour for 38 years.
Mr. Gibbs is survived by Wife; Thelma Abney Gibbs of South Carthage, TN. Children; Linda (Phillip) Deering of Carthage, TN, Ricky (Eleanor) Gibbs of Turkey Creek, TN, Edie (Dr. Joe) Wieck of Nashville, TN, Traci (Kendell) Lankford of South Carthage, TN, and David (Linda) Gibbs of Bristol, VA. Grandchildren; Shelley (Bert) Merriitt, Michael (Tina) Driver, Ritchie Gibbs, Lisa Hughes, Ryan (Stephanie) Manning, Tyler Manning, Hunter Manning, Danielle Gibbs, and Kendra Lankford. Five Great-Grandchildren also survive along with Brother; Eld. James T. (Brenda) Gibbs of South Carthage, TN, Sister; Jean Gibbs of Carthage, TN, and Maggie Marie Hughes of South Carthage, TN, and Brother-in-Law; Daniel Abney of Pensacola, FL.
Funeral Services for Mr. Gibbs are scheduled to be conducted from the Carthage Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 1PM with Hunter Manning delivering the Eulogy and Eld. Phillip Evitts officiating. Interment will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
Visitation with the Gibbs family will be held at the Carthage Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Monday from 2PM until 8PM and again on Tuesday from 11 AM until the time of the service at 1PM.
In lieu of flowers, the Gibbs family requests donations in Mr. Glenn’s memory be made to the Jordan Hackett Foundation or the Jamie Evitts Memorial Scholarship.
