A retired Ironworker for the Tennessee Valley Authority has departed this life at the age of 69 suffering from complications of a stroke suffered weeks ago. The retired gentleman, a United States Army Veteran, was Lewis Roberts.

Pastor Billy R. “Bill” Smith will officiate at a 3 p.m. graveside funeral service on Monday afternoon June 3rd in the Gazebo Garden at the Dixon Springs Cemetery. Burial follow in the Nesbitt Family lot in the Dias Section.

A military tribute service will precede the pastor’s message and will be conducted by American Legion Post # 57 of Carthage.

The Roberts family will receive friends at the graveside following the service. There is no visitation scheduled at the funeral home.

Mr. Roberts was one of four children, two daughters and two sons of the late Arthur D. “Buster” Roberts who died November 22, 2008 at the age of78 and Mary Frances Yates Roberts who died April 23, 1991 at the age of 55, and he was born Lewis Bedford Roberts in Portland in Sumner County, Tennessee on November 26, 1954.

Mr. Roberts was a recipient of his General Education Degree.

When the Hartsville Nuclear was started in the early 1970’s he joined the Local # 492 of the United Iron workers and in 2016 retired as am ironworker at the Gallatin Steam Plant.

He was united in marriage to Riddleton Community native, the former Mary Nesbitt by then County Clerk Jimmy Norris on December 17, 2008.

His Father was a member of the Flatrock Church of Christ and where he attended in his younger days.

Mr. Roberts was a peacetime veteran of the United States Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife Mary is a son, Eric Roberts and fiancée Amy Gregory Roberts of the Grant Community; bonus son, Jason Roberts and wife Debbie of the Flatrock Community; two sisters, Thomasene Roberts Grisham and husband Tony of the Sullivans Bend Community, Jeannie Faye Roberts Grisham and husband Ricky (Slick) Grisham of the Horse shoe Bend Community; brother, Daryl Roberts and fiancé Judy Daniel of Cookeville; two grandchildren, Logan Roberts of the Rome Community and Sierra Roberts of the Grant Community.
