John A. “Chip” Sanders, Jr., age 80, of DeMotte, Indiana passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 at home with his loving wife by his side.
John was born on October 28, 1942 in Gary, IN the son of John Sr. and Dorothy (Daumer) Sanders. He graduated from Hammond High School, Class of 1960 and then served in the United States Navy. John married Roxie E. Shadowen on October 6, 1977 in Crown Point, Indiana. He was the owner and operator of Pop 48, Inc. in Merrillville and the DeMotte Photography Shop. John was a member of American Greyhound Rescue. In his younger days, he enjoyed motorcycle racing & sky diving. He also enjoyed woodworking.
John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Roxie Sanders of DeMotte, IN; sons: John A. “Trey” (Patsy) Sanders III of Carthage, TN; Jason A. (Kim) Sanders of Hickman, TN; 6 grandchildren: John A. (Kristen) Sanders IV, Patrick (Samantha) Sanders, Zachary (Bailey) Sanders, Nikkole Sanders, Hadleigh Sanders, and Madelyn Sanders; 5 great-grandchildren: John A. V, Jo Lynn, Haywood, Emerson, and Breckston “Butch”; and sisters, Vikki (Jerry) Mize, Laurie Reason and Jill (Brad) Leath.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Janet Schall.
Per John’s wishes he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Jackson Funeral Service of DeMotte has been entrusted with the arrangements.
