Barry G McCoy, 62, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away at sunset at 7:25 p.m. Tuesday evening March 25, 2025 following an extended illness.

Mr. McCoy arrived from the Nashville International Airport to the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home on Friday April 4th from Jacksonville, Florida.

Graveside services will be conducted by Eld. Shawn Shepherd on Saturday April 5th at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in the Gazebo Garden at the Dixon Springs Cemetery.

The McCoy family will receive friends at the Dixon Springs Cemetery following the graveside service.

The funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home on Jacksonville Beach, Florida at 11 a.m. E.S.T. Thursday morning April 4th.

Mr. McCoy was born March 30, 1962, in Salem, Indiana to Jerry McCoy and Shirley Patton McCoy.

Barry moved many times as a child because his father was in the Navy. Barry moved to Jacksonville, Florida from Seymour, Indiana in 1980 at the age of 17.

He was saved and was baptized on April 6th, 1980, at Palm Valley Baptist Church, in Palm Valley, Florida.

He was such a goal oriented, dedicated worker that he saved enough money for his first home, which he purchased at age 20.

Mr. McCoy had been dating a 16-year-old girl named Dana Smith in Seymour, Indiana in 1979. In May 1985, Barry and Dana decided they would get together as Dana was coming to Jacksonville, Florida for vacation. On May 17th Dana arrived in Jacksonville and by May 31st, the two were engaged. The two have been married 39 1/2 years, for 40 years, September 27, 2025.

Mr. McCoy was employed as Vice President at Surface Technologies Corporation, Mayport division, located in Mayport, Florida since June 16, 1986. He displayed enduring devotion throughout his career, working long hours, many weekends, away from his family at times for months, and continuing to supervise jobs while on vacations.

He loved fishing, both by boat and surf fishing. He was a certified diver, and he enjoyed going to the Florida Keys to spearfish as well as during lobster season. He enjoyed snorkeling for scallops with his family in Steinhatchee, Florida. He free dove into caves at several Florida Springs, once sucking in the air bubbles behind National Geographic diving photographers in a spring cave so he could see the cave as well.He also enjoyed hunting, belonging to two different hunting camps. He enjoyed Indiana racoon hunting as a kid his uncle, he also enjoyed duck hunting, deer hunting especially in Tennessee, wild boar, and would purchase gator tags annually to hunt for alligators. He fished several local tournaments with family.

Mr. McCoy was a committed husband and unwavering caregiver, provider, and protector, a truly great friend, a loving supportive proud daddy, and sweetest Pawpaw to his grandson, Maxwell. He was full of life and loved his family. Barry is survived by his wife Dana; son, Matthew; daughter-in-law, Dr. Marcy Platzer, and grandson Maxwell. He is further survived by his step-mother, Ronda McCoy; mother-in-law, Carol Gentle (John); step-mother-in-law, Karen Smith; sisters-in-law, IQara Smith (Tyson) and Kitty Smith; brothers-in-law, Owen Pugh, Tyson Smith (IQara) and Danny McGuffey, and aunts; Irmgard McCoy, Nancy Smith (Ron), Rosie Hamilton, Linda Trout and Betty White (Jim). He is survived by numerous cousins, and nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Barry was preceded in death by his father, Jerry McCoy; mother, Shirley McCoy; brother, Jerry Wayne McCoy; sister, Robin Pugh; sister-in-law, Susan McCoy; nieces, Heather McCoy and Linde Pugh; grandparents Robert McCoy, Ida Mae Mathers, Claude Patton, and Sally “Sarah” Patton; and numerous aunts and uncles. He is further preceded in death by father-in-law, Charles Smith; brothers-in-law, Randy Smith and Jeff Smith; and sister-in-law Debbie McGuffey.
