The Zinc mine is re-open for business, and it’s a plan that has been in the works for a while.

According to Kelly Strong, VP of North American mining operations, “What’s happened now is late last fall we made a decision to reopen the mine. The price of zinc was back up a bit higher.”

With the mine being back in business..that means new equipment, all of which Nyrstar was happy to provide.

“We’ve got about eighty pieces of brand new equipment coming in here. That’s production equipment as well as utility and service equipment coming in. And as well we put the mine through what we call the Full Potential Exercise,” Strong said.

The Full Potential Exercise helps the company to make sure December 2015 doesn’t happen again, which is good news to all of the potential employees Nyrstar wants to hire.

Strong said, “We’re looking for any kind of skilled labor when it comes to mining. We’re looking for trades electrical and mechanical. We’re also looking for some critical staff positions like mine supervisors and maintenance supervisors. So, we’re looking at doing that. And again, we need about 460 people when we get to full production by next year.”

2017 has been a big year for growth at Nyrstar Tennessee mines, and if you want to be a part of it, they provide the training you need to succeed.

“We bought a simulator and what that is it’s a piece of equipment that we are actually using to put people in that simulates them operating that piece of equipment in the mine when they eventually go in and work. So we’ve got two different kinds of production equipment right now as part of that simulator package, [and] we will have two more coming in in January. The whole idea is that we can accelerate that training and the learning curve for the new employees coming in. So they don’t necessarily have to come in with experience operating that equipment. We can essentially train them from not having any experience at all,” Strong said

This zinc mine plans to be here for the long haul…a place where you can not only have a steady job…but also where you can build a career.

According to Strong, “We have a very competitive salary that we offer people here. [We have] competitive benefits, a great work environment, and it’s really an exciting industry to be in. We’ve had a lot of that kind of input from new employees who haven’t worked underground before. They get out there and they just love it. They see a whole different side of the mining industry that they didn’t before.”

2017 has been a big year for growth and recruiting at Nyrstar Tennessee Mines, and they don’t plan on slowing down. they are looking for men and women who want to grow in a career, not just a job – people who want to be part of something big, something global.
