Waffle House bomb threat closes business temporarily last week

On Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 Gordonsville Police Officer Ian Grigg responded to the Waffle House located on Gordonsville Highway after a caller indicated to an employee that there was a bomb in the restaurant. Upon arriving to the location Officer Grigg evacuated the building and checked the bathrooms where the caller had indicated the bomb was located. Nothing was found to be out of place in the bathrooms.

The employee indicated that the caller seemed to be using a voice changer and specifically said “there is a bomb in the bathroom.” When she asked for clarification the caller immediately hung up. The number of the caller was recorded. A detailed investigation is still in progress and potential juveniles are being questioned.

All agencies were involved in the process to secure the restaurant and safety of the staff and customers including the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Carthage Police Department, South Carthage Police Department, Gordonsville Police Department, Gordonsville Fire Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol.
