UT Extension News: Smith County Cattlemen’s Association Spring Showdown

June 3, 2022

On Saturday, May 7 the Smith County Cattlemen’s Association held their 8th annual Open Beef Show at the Smith County Agriculture Center in Carthage. This year, the show was renamed the SCCA Spring Showdown. With 46 exhibitors and 96 head of cattle, spectators were able to see some fierce competition.

The Spring Showdown serves as the primary fundraiser for the Smith County Cattlemen’s Association. Classes are sponsored by local association members as well as businesses interested in livestock production. This year’s winner of the Stanley Dillehay Supreme Champion Heifer award was Kabry Tinin of Lawrenceburg, TN.

Proceeds from the event will be used for scholarships awarded to graduating seniors in the county, to provide opportunities for Junior Association members, and help with expenses for field days and production meetings throughout the year.

The Smith County Cattlemen’s Association would like to thank all of our sponsors and exhibitors for making this year’s show a success. We invite those interested in attending next year to mark their calendar for May 6, 2023 and “like” our facebook page at “Smith County Cattlemen’s Association” to see pictures from this year’s show and stay up to date with upcoming events.

Josie Harville was one of several Smith County youth who participated in the SCCA Spring Showdown.
