UT Extension News – July is Beef Month!

June 28, 2024

By Katie Martin, Smith County Extension Agent

Smith County Extension invites you to celebrate July as Beef Month! You can find cattle in all of our ninety-five counties across the state, and Tennessee is home to more than 45,000 operations and 2 million cattle. Beef cattle are consistently among the top three for Tennessee’s agricultural commodities, accounting for nearly 17% of all agriculture cash receipts.

Beef is also a tasty and versatile ingredient. It is great to throw on the grill this summer or use as an ingredient in many different recipes, from pasta to tacos. Beef is also a good source of ten essential nutrients including high-quality protein, iron, zinc, and choline, making each 3 oz. serving highly nutritious.

We hope you will make plans to stop by Sav-Way on July 12th at 5:00 p.m. to enjoy a free beef meal brought to you by Smith County Young Farmers & Ranchers and Smith County 4-H! These two groups are partnering to participate in the 2024 Beef Backer Contest hosted by the Tennessee Beef Industry Council. They will have hamburgers with beef provided by local cattlemen as well as promotional items and giveaways! Be one of the first 200 people to stop by to make sure you receive your free burger!
