Two Individuals Arrested in Smith County for Drugs and Illegal Possession of Firearm

On March 8, 2021, K9 Sgt. Ridge Long conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to maintain its lane of travel, and the driver hit the rumble strip. Upon making contact with the occupants, Mr. Gary Stewart (driver) and Mr. Brandon Roberson (passenger), Sgt. Long observed a set of digital scales laying in view. Mr. Stewart could not provide any form of identification upon request. Mr. Stewart was asked to exit the vehicle and retrieve the scales where white powder residue was found. Mr. Stewart was placed under arrest.

He stated that he was on probation. During a search of his person, 14 grams of heroin were found in his pocket. 

Mr. Roberson was then removed and detained. He revealed a marijuana joint in the vehicle. Sgt. Junior Fields arrived on the scene and found less than a gram of heroin on Mr. Roberson during a search. He was then placed under arrest. 

After conducting a vehicle search, 14 ounces of methamphetamine was found along with a loaded handgun, five oxycodone, two subutex, two more sets of digital scales that contained residue, and several used syringes and clear baggies. 

Mr. Stewart claimed the methamphetamine and the pills. Mr. Roberson claimed the firearm. Mr. Roberson is prohibited from being in possession of a firearm due to being convicted of 2nd degree murder and selling drugs. Mr. Roberson was also found to have an active warrant out for his arrest out of Wilson County.

Both men were placed under arrest and taken to the Smith County Jail for booking, 

Mr. Stewart is being charged with MFG/ DEL/ SELL controlled substance, Possession of methamphetamine, Felony possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substances, and driving while in possession of meth.

Mr. Roberson is being charged with felony possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a weapon by a felon, simple possession of narcotics, and simple possession of schedule VI.

Both are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
