(Smith County Insider Press) CARTHAGE, Tenn. — Two people were arrested during a traffic stop for speeding after being found intoxicated and in possession of drugs Sunday, May 7.
Sgt. Junior Fields of the Smith County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a Chevy Traverse after its speed was indicated on radar to be travelling 65 mph in a 45 mph zone along the bypass near Walmart.
Upon stopping the vehicle and speaking with the driver, identified as Joseph Gluc (57, Hickman), an odor of intoxicants was noticed, according to the arrest warrant.
Fields had Mr. Gluc stop out of the vehicle and noticed he had red, blood shot eyes, according to the arrest warrant.
According to the arrest warrant, Fields had Mr. Gluc show him what was in his pockets, at which time he produced two, 10 mg Hydrocodone pills.
Mr. Gluc stated he had taken three, 10 mg Hydrocodone pills and one, 20 mg Oxycodone pill that day, according to the arrest warrant.
Fields had Mr. Gluc perform the standardized fields sobriety tests, of which he was unable to perform as instructed, according to the arrest warrant.
The front seat passenger of the vehicle, identified as Nancy Gluc (61, Hickman), was found to be very intoxicated and also found to be in possession of four, 15 mg Oxycontin pills, at which she stated she did not have a prescription for, according to the arrest warrant.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Gluc were placed under arrest.
Mrs. Gluc was transported to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking by Deputy Kendra Grisham.
Dales Towing came to the scene, and after loading the vehicle. Fields transported Mr. Gluc to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking.
Joseph Gluc is charged with driving under the influence, violation of implied consent law and possession of controlled substances.
Nancy Gluc is charged with possession of controlled substances.
