(Smith County Insider Press) Smith County, Tenn. – Thursday afternoon, September 29, two individuals were arrested following a multiple county investigation regarding a series of Elementary School burglaries that occurred in Smith, Wilson, and DeKalb Counties.
In Smith County, three elementary schools were burglarized, New Middleton Elementary, Forks River Elementary, and Carthage Elementary.
In Wilson County, Tucker’s Crossroad Elementary and Sam Houston Elementary were burglarized
In DeKalb County, the only school burglarized was DeKalb West Elementary.
The series of burglaries took place between September 17th and September 28th.
On September 29, Officer Nick Campbell of the Carthage Police Department was on routine patrol, when he observed that Carthage Elementary School had been burglarized. Carthage Police Department sent out a BOLO (Be On Look Out) to area police departments with a description of the burglary and the alleged suspects. Later that night, through a joint investigation, Wilson County Sheriff’s Department Deputies and Lebanon Police Department officers located the two suspected individuals at the Traveler’s Inn in Lebanon.
The suspects were Shauna M. Fleetwood and Brian Clinton Howell. After interviewing both Fleetwood and Howell, they allegedly admitted to the multiple county burglary spree.
Fleetwood alleged that Howell drove her and her a 3-year-old child to Carthage Elementary on the night of September 28. She stated that Howell exited the vehicle with intent to break into the school, and she drove the vehicle away. Fleetwood stated she returned an hour later to pick up Howell at the Ridgewood Cemetery. Howell stated that Fleetwood’s allegations were true and that she assisted him with the burglary by picking him up. Howell admitted that he discarded evidence in the cemetery. The evidence was envelopes that had contained checks and money.
Fleetwood was transported to Smith County Jail Facility for booking. Howell was transported to Wilson County Sheriff’s Department for booking for an active warrant for Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and Theft of Property. Once Howell faces his previous charges in Wilson County, he will be transported to Smith County Jail Facility to face the charges resulting from the burglary spree.
Shauna M. Fleetwood was charged with Accessory After the Fact, Conspiracy: Criminal (Felony), Child Abuse/Neglect Under 18 years old, and Criminal Responsibility: Facilitating to Burglary.
All of Howell’s charges will not be available until he is transported back to Smith County, but he will be charged with Burglary, Conspiracy: Criminal (Felony) and Child Abuse/Neglect Under 18 years old.
