(Smith County Insider Press) Gordonsville, TENN. — A truck driver was arrested at the Pilot truck stop in Gordonsville after being discovered intoxicated behind the wheel with the engine running Sunday, April 2.
Deputy Robin Bellar of the Smith County Sheriff’s Department received a call concerning a possible intoxicated driver at the Pilot truck stop.
Bellar found the described vehicle, a red Volvo tractor trailer truck with white trailer, in the back parking lot with its engine running.
Upon contact with the driver, identified as 47-year-old Kevin Tucker of Schereville, Indiana, Bellar observed him as having slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, according to the arrest warrant.
According to the arrest warrant, Tucker fumbled with his wallet when asked for identification and then attempted to reverse his vehicle and trailer while Bellar was running his information.
Bellar initiated emergency equipment, and Tucker came to a stop, pulling back into his parking space.
According to the arrest warrant, it appeared Tucker was using his truck to brace himself due to not being able to balance after stepping down from the truck.
Bellar smelled a strong odor one would associate with an intoxicating beverage coming from Tucker’s person, according to the arrest warrant.
According to the arrest warrant, Tucker admitted to drinking a half pint of whiskey about an hour or two before Bellar came in contact with him.
Tucker was read the implied consent form and submitted to a BAC test. However, upon arrest and transport to the hospital, Tucker refused to give blood, according to the arrest warrant.
Tucker was taken to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking.
He is charged with Driving Under the Influence (1st offense) and Violation of Implied Consent Law.
