On December 31st, 2022, Deputy Nathan Williams conducted a traffic stop after observing a white Ford ranger fail to use a turn signal. Dep. Williams made contact with the driver who was identified as Mr. Matthew Woodard. After running Woodard’s background, Dep. Williams learned that he had a history of engaging in criminal activity such as selling and delivering illegal narcotics.
A search of Woodard’s person resulted in the discovery of a hollowed pen with a residue inside. Woodard confessed to having heroin in his vehicle. Approximately 7 grams of heroin was recovered in a white pill bottle during a search. Woodard was sent to the Smith County Sheriff’s office for further investigation where he admitted to selling heroin to “get by.” Later, Woodard was booked in the Smith County Jail.
