Traffic Stop Leads to Recovery of Stolen Items

On February 12th, Sergeant Junior Fields stopped a Green Dodge Ram pickup after observing the vehicle had a tail light out. After speaking with Mr. Edwin Marek and the passenger Mr. Justin Penuel a second unit was requested. 

While speaking to Mr. Marek outside of the vehicle Marek, a background check revealed that he was on parole which led to a parole search. Officers inquired about stolen property in the truck since Mr. Penuel was a suspect of burglary. When Mr Penuel stepped out of the vehicle he stated he had a marijuana roach but was unable to locate it. After a search a black magnetic box with 4.4 grams of crystal meth, two meth pipes, and multiple hypodermic syringes inside was located in the vehicle.

Also located in the vehicle was stolen property including a Milwaukee sawzall and a Dewalt Shop Light. After admitting to more stolen property at multiple locations the following was found: Milwaukee Pack out tool box, assorted tools, Duro Star generator, Ryobi leaf blower, multi tool craftsman set, Ryobi Impact, and a Husky tool bag. 

While speaking to Mr Penuel he granted consent to search his phone and upon looking at pictures more stolen items were observed. Mr. Penuels girlfriend agreed to bring the stolen items to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office. These items included: the rest of the Milwaukee pack out set, a black air compressor, a green Suzuki dirt bike, and a catalytic converter with fresh cut marks.
