Smith County authorities arrested multiple individuals on January 29, 2025, following a routine traffic stop that led to the discovery of illegal drugs and evidence of drug trafficking.
Sgt. Junior Fields of the Smith County Sheriff’s Office assisted Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Ridge Long at mile marker 254 on Interstate 40. Trooper Long had stopped a vehicle for window tint violations and improper lane use. Passenger Megan Hutchings was found in possession of a methamphetamine pipe, which she attempted to destroy, along with $920 in cash.
After waiving her Miranda rights, Ms. Hutchings admitted she was traveling to Nashville to purchase three ounces of crystal meth—two for herself and one for Tosha Henry, who had contributed $300. The driver, Gregory Hutchings, initially claimed they were visiting a relative in the hospital but later admitted knowledge of the drug pickup.
Ms. Hutchings was arrested, while Mr. Hutchings was allowed to drive to the Smith County Jail. Further investigation led officers to a planned drug pickup at the Pilot gas station near I-40. Ms. Henry agreed to meet Ms. Hutchings there, and officers conducted a traffic stop on her silver Toyota Highlander.
Driver Christian Lack was found in possession of buspirone, while Ms. Henry had burnt tin foil and a small bag of crystal meth in the glove compartment. Both were arrested and transported to jail. Investigators discovered Ms. Henry had allowed Ms. Hutchings to use her vehicle for drug pickups in exchange for money and drugs. Ms. Henry also had an active warrant from Mississippi for meth possession, and Mr. Lack was driving on a suspended license.
