Austin Hunter Henry
(Smith County Insider Press) – On November 15, 2019, Deputy Matt White with the Smith County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 65 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. The vehicle was occupied by three individuals.
According to the police report, the vehicle was driven by Austin Henry (21, Elmwood). Deputy White asked Henry to step out of the vehicle multiple times before Henry was told to step out of the vehicle for an officer safety pat down. During the pat down, two knives were removed from Henry’s person.
After the pat down, Henry was asked if there was anything in a container hanging from his keys which had been placed on the hood of Deputy White’s patrol car. According to the police report, Henry opened the container and a pill fell to the ground, which K9 Sergeant Ridge Long identified on the scene as a 50mg Tramadol Hydrochloride pill. Henry did not have a valid prescription for the schedule IV narcotic.
A search was then conducted of each passenger as well as the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, a substance believed to be methamphetamine was located inside a blue bottle, and four 20mg Oxycodone Hydrochloride pills were located in the driver’s seat. Drug paraphernalia including cut ink pens, aluminum foil with burn residue, and a set of scales was found as well.
According to the police report, Henry took ownership of the items located in the vehicle. Henry was placed under arrest and transported to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for booking. Henry was issued a state citation for speeding and failure to provide proof of insurance.
Henry is charged with felony possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, simple possession of narcotics, and possession of controlled substances.
