(Smith County Insider Press) Gordonsville, Tenn. – On Tuesday, November 22, Smith County 911 received a call reporting a three vehicle accident on I-40 East bound near the Wilson County line.
Three vehicles were involved in the accident, a 2016 red Peterbilt Car Hauler, driven by Chad Lawson of Loudon, TN. The other two vehicles were a 2014 blue Toyota Scion, driven by Eric Furman and 2001 black Nissan Maxima, driven by Therese Herriott. Herriott’s 16-year-old son was a passenger in the vehicle.
According to Trooper Adam Cothron’s report, the black Nissan Maxima struck the blue Toyota Scion in the rear causing it to strike the car hauler in the rear. After the Toyota struck the truck, it spun into the right hand shoulder of I-40. The truck and the Nissan Maxima came to a final rest on the left shoulder of the interstate.
Therese Herriott and her son were transported to Riverview Regional Medical Center by Smith County EMS with minor injuries.
Herriott was cited for Failure to Exercise Due Care, Driving an Unregistered Vehicle, Unlawful Display of License Plate, and Financial Responsibility for having no insurance.
Smith County EMS, Smith County Rescue Squad, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Smith County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the scene.
