October 7, 2000 – On NBC’s sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live, a parody of the recent presidential debates featured Carthage native Vice President Al Gore inventing or wildly embellishing a story about a Sparta woman named Etta Munsen, whose many health problems would be taken care of under his healthcare proposal.
