The Red Sand Project brings awareness to human trafficking

August 3, 2023

On July 31st, The Spot in partnership with the Smith County Health Department held The Red Sand Project. The Spot is a youth center for 7th-12th grade students in Smith County.

The Red Sand Project is a collaborative artwork movement created by Molly Gochman that uses sidewalk indentations and cracks to create opportunities for people to question, connect and take action against human trafficking, modern slavery, and exploitation. The red sand represents the people that are trafficked “falling through the cracks’” in the view of society.

Over 30 people attended the event at the Historic Carthage Courthouse. Artwork made by the red sand was created by adults and youth alike, helping to show awareness for the common cause to show awareness for human trafficking.
