The Kody Norris Show scores big at the SPGMA

February 1, 2023

The Kody Norris Show was awarded Entertainer(s) of the Year at the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPGMA) 48th Annual Awards Show at the Sheraton Music City Hotel in Nashville, TN. Additionally the band won Instrumental Group of the Year. Kody Norris won Guitar Player of the Year and Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris won Fiddle Player of the Year.

The four person band is comprised of frontman Kody Norris on guitar and his fiddling “sweetie,” Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris, Josiah Tyree on banjo and Cousin Charlie Lowman on the bass. The band describes themselves as retro, hillbilly, bluegrass and rockabilly. Their top notch playing and picking is center stage, but humor and visual flash are part of the entertaining package. Kody describes the experience a “a dern good entertainment.” The band provides more than just four amazing musicians playing music. They offer light comedy and bring plenty of energy to their shows.

Josiah Tyree is a Carthage, TN native. He credits his father for introducing him to old-time, bluegrass and gospel singing. His traditional 3 finger style banjo picking is a key element to the band, but his flair for fancy footwork and stage performance provides a fun entertainment value.

In their recently release music video “I Call Her Sunshine” Josiah takes lead with Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris on the Tenor and Kody Norris on the Baritone Vocal providing a melodic blend and new chemistry for the band.

The Kody Norris Band has a packed tour schedule with dates in several Tennessee locations including Nashville. Check out The Kody Norris Show facebook page or The Kody Norris Show website for more information.
