GORDONSVILLE, Tenn.—A new cafe has opened its doors on Main Street in Gordonsville, and owners Jamie Coffman and Jody Davies are ready to welcome customers with open arms and fresh home cooking.
The Blue Lemon Cafe is located at 111 Main Street East, directly across the street from Gordonsville High School. The cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and after school snacks. Their business hours are 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
Their breakfast menu features loaded breakfast burritos, muffins, fruit and yogurt, and southern staples like sausage biscuits and biscuits and gravy. Breakfast is served from 7:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., The Blue Lemon Cafe serves a variety of sandwiches, salads, and sides, including their signature potato salad that they say will please even the harshest critics.
Students can come in after school from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. for snacks like pizza rolls, nachos, chicken nuggets, and corn dogs.

Mother-and-daughter team Jamie Coffman (daughter) and Jody Davies (mother) told Smith County Insider that they had always casually talked about opening a restaurant but had never seriously pursued the idea until they moved from Texas to Gordonsville in early August.
When the two noticed a vacant space in the middle of town, the stars seemed to align, and before they knew it, The Blue Lemon Cafe had become a reality. Their new town is now home to their new restaurant.
The initial conception of The Blue Lemon was a coffee shop, and the friendly, cozy atmosphere of the cafe is a testament to this, particularly with its flavored coffee bar and free wi-fi that encourages patrons to sit and stay a while.
Jamie and Jody’s idea started simple with the thought of serving muffins and pastries, but their conception grew bigger as the two imagined more and more things they could serve.
Ultimately, Jamie and Jody turned to the community to guide the shape of the restaurant’s menu.
“We went and talked to people. Everywhere we went, we’d say, ‘We’re thinking of opening up a little cafe…’ and we’d talk and watch their expressions,” Jamie said. “People gave us a lot of feedback, and that helped us grow our menu.”
Jamie and Jody said that they expect the menu to adapt and change as the restaurant continues to grow.
“There’s nowhere else like Gordonsville,” Jamie commented on the restaurant’s location. She and Jody emphasized the kindness and closeness of the community, as well as the support they have received both personally and professionally during the time they have called Tennessee home.
Jamie and Jody want to extend that same kindness and closeness back into their new community through the friendly service and atmosphere of The Blue Lemon Cafe.
“We want people to know this is a place for them to come and relax and enjoy a good meal,” Jamie said.
“The highlight for me,” Jody added, “is to be back there in the kitchen but hear laughter and talking in the dining room area, where everybody is having a good time. That’s worth all the work that we put into it.”
When asked about the name “The Blue Lemon Cafe,” Jamie and Jody looked at each other and laughed. They said they wanted a name that stood out and sparked people’s curiosity. They love the air of mystery surrounding the name, and they love making customers wonder, “What is a blue lemon?”
“People like to ask, and it’s a really fun thing,” Jody said.
After choosing a name for their cafe, the two decided to incorporate specialty menu items like their signature blueberry lemon muffin to fit the theme. Jamie and Jody look forward to dreaming up even more yummy possibilities.
