A line of summertime thunderstorms is responsible for blowing down numerous trees and causing other sporadic wind damage throughout the county Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities were dispatched to multiple locations throughout the county where wind damage had occurred.
One such location was along Cookeville Highway just off Stonewall Road in Elmwood where a trampoline was lifted into the air, landed on an electrical line, and slid downhill along the line before coming to a rest, still dangling from the line as shown in the images below.
Near the end of Kennys Bend Road in the Rock City community, a grain bin was toppled over.
In South Carthage, a detached carport was flipped on its roof and destroyed, causing minor damage to the house it was located next to.
Trees were reported down by authorities on both Flat Rock Road near Highway 70, as well as along Highway 70 near the Wilson/Smith County line. They have since been cleared.
According to Smith County Weather, the storms were part of a summertime system and not out of the ordinary for this time of year, especially with temperatures climbing into the 90s with dew points in the mid 70s — a combination that can easily set off thunderstorms when atmospheric ingredients come together just right.
Smith County Weather also reports that more thunderstorms will be possible Thursday with highs once again climbing into the 90s, but they should be more isolated in nature and only carry a slim chance of becoming severe.
