On March 29th, Deputy Ray Biggs was patrolling Hwy 70 near Volunteer Circle when he observed a gold Chevy Truck traveling at a high rate of speed. Deputy Biggs pursued the truck. A radar check indicated that it was traveling 83 mph in an area designated as 55 mph. The vehicle was stopped at the intersection of Plunketts Creek and Hwy 70.
Deputy Biggs made contact with the driver, identified as Thomas D. Anderson. When asked to produce required documents, Anderson was neither able to produce a drivers license nor registration for the vehicle. Anderson was asked to exit the vehicle and admitted that the tag on the vehicle did not belong. After running the vehicle identification number it was discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen from South Carthage in April 2020.
Anderson was handcuffed and advised of his Miranda rights. He attempted to explain the history of the vehicle which included its sale in 2020 and correction of the report of being stolen. He consented to a search of the vehicle.
The search resulted in the discovery of 2.25 grams of marijuana, a marijuana grinder, rolling paper, a baggie and copper pipe with a white substance residue. Additionally a Ruger EC95 was found in the vehicle.
Anderson was charged with schedule VI simple possession, possession of drug paraphernalia theft of property and speeding. He was released on a $4,500 bond and will appear in court on a later date.
