by Steve Norris, Smith County Insider Weather Correspondent:
We broke the record this week in Smith County for the hottest temperatures ever recorded in the month of September as we reached the upper 90s. The rain gauge located just west of Carthage recorded only two-thirds of an inch of rain for the entire month of September.
Records for heat and dry weather were just falling left and right but now as the song says it’s time for a Cool Change. The high temperature on Monday will struggle to get to 70 degrees and drop into the 40s Monday and Tuesday nights. These kinds of drastic changes in such a short time may be a shock to your system.
Rain becomes likely from Sunday into early Monday so we are just talking drastic changes all around.
It seemed like it would never come but it’s time to get out the sweaters and jackets.
In our evening sky, the crescent moon and the planet Jupiter are appearing rather close together to the South – Southwest. Sunrise is now 6:41 a.m. with sunset at 6:23 p.m.
