This has been a week of true Indian summer weather. It is defined as warm, dry days along with clear and chilly nights, and it comes after the first frost and freeze of the season, which we had last Saturday morning across Middle Tennessee as the temperature dropped to 30 to 32 degrees in some areas. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely Friday and Friday night, but drier air will arrive over the weekend, and I expect Sunday to be partly sunny and 79 degrees! Scattered showers come back Monday and Tuesday and will be followed by much cooler air from the 27th Thru the 31st.
Halloween seems to be the holiday with the most extreme differences in temperature from year to year because it comes at the time of year when winter air masses are trying to push the warmer weather out of the country, so it depends on which one wins that day. On Halloween of 2016, the temperature hit the low to mid 80s, but on the other hand, we had snowflakes in 1993 and 2014.
