Smith County Weather Report – October 10, 2019

October 10, 2019

by Steve Norris, Smith County Insider Weather Correspondent

A passing cold front Friday night will bring some showers and then usher in the coldest air of the season as we drop into the 30s by Sunday morning. A little frost is not out of the question if the wind calms down, so bring in the plants just to be safe.

Your Columbus Day weekend is looking pretty good with clearing and cool Saturday, followed by sunny and warmer Sunday and Monday. High temperatures will climb from 62 degrees on Saturday to 75 degrees by Monday. Another cold front is expected to bring showers around Tuesday and then highs only in the 60s again Wednesday and Thursday.

Freezing temperatures are not forecast for our area yet but from October 17th to the 19th 1948, we had three consecutive nights dropping into the upper 20s.

Go out on one of these lovely evenings about an hour after dark and check out the moon getting bigger and brighter each night as we head toward a full moon on Sunday night. This one is called the Hunter’s Moon. We also continue to have Jupiter as the brightest planet in the southwestern sky with the moon to the southeast. Sunrise is now 6:47 a.m. With sunset coming at 6:13 p.m.
