Smith County Weather Report – December 26, 2019

December 26, 2019

by Steve Norris, Smith County Insider Weather Correspondent

After a wonderful week of Christmas weather, rain returns to the forecast from Saturday night through Sunday night and the Thundershower is even possible due to the mild temperatures.

Cold air comes back early in the week with upper 30s Monday morning and only upper 40s Monday afternoon.

We are looking good for New Year’s Eve but I expect more showers after New Year’s Day. Highs will mostly be in the 50s next week and even colder weather is expected after January 6th.

I think we are in for a wild ride in January because of the weather pattern that is unfolding across the country. I wouldn’t be surprised if we had periods of rain and thunderstorms and mild weather in Middle Tennessee, as well as some periods of very cold air and snow.

I will be keeping you updated each week on this topsy-turvy weather pattern I expect.

The jet stream is in what we call a long wave pattern meaning it goes way up North and we get warmer but then it can drop way down to the South and we get Arctic air.
