Smith County Weather Report – December 13, 2019

December 13, 2019

by Steve Norris, Smith County Insider Weather Correspondent

Rain chances return to Smith County for Friday and Friday night and we will see some clouds and a few scattered showers for the weekend. The high temperatures will be near 50 degrees so all-in-all not too bad.

Looking at the extended forecast for next week, shower chances on the 16th and 24th but high temperatures in the 40s and 50s.

It looks like no white Christmas this year; it’s just going to be too mild. I will have an update on your Christmas forecast next week and some information on some of the weather we have had on Christmas in the past in this area.

Winter begins officially Saturday night, December 21st at 10:19 p.m. Central time. It is the day with the fewest hours of sunlight and the longest night of the whole year. The Sun is also now at its lowest point in the sky of the year. The days then start getting longer after the 21st with the sun setting about 30 seconds later each day so we gain about six minutes of Sunshine by the end of December and 36 minutes by the end of January.
