Smith County Weather Report – August 29, 2019

August 29, 2019

by Steve Norris, Smith County Insider Weather Correspondent:

A sunny and hot Labor Day weekend is upcoming for Middle Tennessee with high temperatures near 90 and the nights dropping into the upper 60s…wonderful weather for outdoor activities for what is often considered to be the last big fling of the summer! Looking into next week is a difficult call because our weather could be influenced by Dorian, which is expected to be a hurricane reaching Florida over the weekend. Then, the question is, where will it go next? One computer model brings us rain by the middle of next week, while another takes Dorian up the east coast and leaves us mostly dry. Temperatures do look to cool a little from September 7th to 11th with highs in the low to mid-80s.

Sunrise is now 6:14 a.m. with sunset at 7:15 p.m. You can sure notice the days are getting shorter. We are only a little over three weeks away from the beginning of autumn. The next night or two, temperatures could drop into the upper 50s, and that will sure remind you that autumn is not far away. Jupiter continues to be the brightest planet shining down in the South- South Western sky after sunset with Saturn located to its left.

Next week, I will be telling you how August finished compared to normal and talk about the extremes we have seen in September over the years, here is a hint… We have seen everything from 100 degrees to frost during the month!
