Showers and thunderstorms will be on the increase across Middle Tennessee through Saturday and some will dump heavy rainfall and bring cloud-to-ground lightning, high temperatures will be in the 80s. It looks like the rain chances will drop into the slight category from Sunday through Tuesday and it gets hotter with the temperature hitting 90 degrees. The tropics are getting active and there could be several hurricanes in the Atlantic in the coming days and these could have an impact on our weather in the next couple of weeks.
August weather is usually highlighted by two things in Middle Tennessee. It is often the hottest month of the year and we can get wind and rain from tropical weather systems that have moved into the Gulf of Mexico coastline. I did some checking on the record books and here is what I found.
August 8th 1930 Temperatures as high as 111 degrees are recorded across the mid state.
August 29th 1986 a rare August cold front dropped the temperature into the mid to upper 40s in Smith county.
August 30 2005 the remains of Hurricane Katrina bring rain and 40 mile per hour winds to parts of Tennessee.
