By Steve Norris – The week began with scattered Frost and is going to end with temperatures in the 80s. Friday through Sunday is looking beautiful with lots of sunshine and temperatures in the low to mid-80s. We will not be so lucky next week with rain coming on Monday and cooler weather Tuesday through Friday.
The severe storms that moved through April 13th produced wind gusts to 67 miles per hour at the Smyrna Airport, 64 mph at Nashville International Airport and 62 miles per hour in Lawrenceburg. We were very lucky that the atmospheric conditions were more favorable for straight-line winds than tornadoes. We continue to have about five weeks of our tornado season remaining but we have no major severe threats through the weekend.
April 16th 1998 the only F5 tornado ever recorded in Tennessee touched down in Lawrence County but mostly stayed over rural areas with 20 injuries but no deaths reported.
