Smith County Special Needs Basketball Signups

February 22, 2018

Smith County Special Needs Sports Basketball signup deadline is March 1, 2018. Click HERE to view a PDF version of the signup form.

Who is eligible to participate?

We welcome any male or female special needs basketball players, ages 5 and up, with all types of developmental disabilities such as autism, down syndrome, aspergers, physical disabilities, etc. Anyone can play-from those who are highly functioning to those who have never participated in sports.

How is the game played and is it safe?

The game is just like regular basketball. We will use regular goals for those who can shoot, and shorter goals for our athletes in wheelchairs or who cannot shoot at a regular goal. We will have peer partners to assist those in wheelchairs, but the peer partners will not be allowed to score.

Where and when will the games be played?

The games will be played at Smith County Middle School on Saturday mornings starting at 10:00am, starting on March 10, 17, 24, and 31.

What do the players need to furnish?

Players need to wear black shorts. Players will need a plain t-shirt, color will be announced before first game.

How much does it cost?

There will be a $25.00 per player fee. This will help cover miscellaneous expenses and provide awards. This fee must be paid when the registration form is turned in.

Who provides transportation?

Parents will provide transportation to and from games. If there is an emergency, contact the coach or Lisa Hembree and possibly other arrangements can be made.

If you have any questions, you may contact Lisa Hembree at 615-418-5229.
