Smith County Owls lose 39-10 at Stone Memorial

The Smith County Owls trip didn’t go as they would have liked, as they lost to the Stone Memorial Panthers 39-10.

The Owls went down early, giving up a touchdown on a 37 yard rush on the 4th play of the game to go down 7-0.

The Owls were unable to get anything going, punting on 3 downs. Stone Memorial was able to drive down easily and score again going up 14-0 with 5 minutes. The Owls were able to get a little going on their next drive, as they drove down field 55 yards and Salomon Rodriguez hit a 36 yard field goal to narrow the gap to 14-3 with 10 minutes in the half.

Caleb Crawford got an interception around midfield and the Owls offense was making their way downfield but Stone Memorial was able to stop the owls on 4th down at the 24. The panthers drove down field and took a 21-3 lead midway through the 2nd quarter. This lead carried to the end of the half.

The Owls second half started strong, scoring just 19 seconds into the second half off of a 57 yard touchdown run by Josh Allen, and were able to stop the Panthers next drive. The Owls were unable to get anything going, and Stone Memorial scored two touchdowns off long rushes of 70 and 33 yards respectively.

Stone Memorial was able to stop the Owls for the remainder of the game, and tacked on another touchdown in the fourth quarter to win 39-10.

The Owls will close out their regular season on the road next week when they travel to Grundy County on October 30th
