The Smith County Owls new-look offense dominated the annual rivalry game against the Gordonsville Tigers, with the Owls winning 49-20. For the second season in a row, a first year head coach has won the Carthage-Gordonsville game.

The Smith County Owls offense was able to score early and often, scoring on their first drive of the game off of a 6 yard Cameron Spivey rush to take a 7-0 lead. The Owls defense was able to stop the Tigers from doing anything, and the Owls were able to score on the following drive off of a 76 yard touchdown pass from Spivey to Jaden Apple-Gibbs.

The Tigers were able to bounce back with a score of their own on the following drive when Skyshn Washer dragged an Owls defender into the end zone off of a pass by Matthew Albritton. This made the score 14-7 with two minutes left in the first quarter.

The Owls were able to pull away in the second quarter, with John Ross Hord scoring three rushing touchdowns in the second quarter. His highlight run was a 46 yard rush on the first play of a drive. Ross’s big second quarter allowed to Owls to take a 35-7 lead to end the half.

Scoring slowed down in the second half, with Hord scoring another touchdown to make the score 42-7. The Tigers were able to score two touchdowns of their own, but the Owls lead was too large to overcome.

The Owls notched another touchdown to make the final score 49-20.
