The Smith County Public Library Summer Reading Program officially kicked off on Thursday with a program by magician Barry Mitchell at 10:00 a.m. at the Smith County Ag Center.
The theme of this year’s Summer Reading Program is “A Universe of Stories,” and Barry Mitchell’s show, titled “Aliens, Astronauts, and a Turtle in Space,” fit right in.
Mitchell entertained the children with comedy and interactive magic tricks. He also encouraged everyone to visit the library and read books in order to fill the “space” between their ears this summer!
After the program, the children enjoyed a free lunch at the Ag Center.
Summer Reading events will continue through the end of June, ending with a final party at the City Pool at 10:00 a.m. on June 21.
In the meantime, Scott Tripp the Balloon guy will appear at the Ag Center at 10:00 a.m. on June 6, and The Science Guys will perform on June 13.
If you have questions about the Summer Reading Program, please contact the Smith County Public Library at 615-735-1326.
