Smith County Healthcare Hero Stormiee Danielle Eldred, FNP-BC
Today’s Healthcare Hero is Stormiee Danielle Eldred, FNP-BC.
Stormiee is from Smith County and she has worked at Smith County Health and Rehabilitation for the last three years with an amazing team under the supervision of Dr. Bernard Sy.
Smith County Insider interviewed Stormiee about her experiences working in healthcare, and this is what she had to say.
SCI: How long have you worked in the healthcare field?
SE: I began my career in medicine as a Registered Respiratory Therapist prior to graduating with my BSN and then my Master’s as a Family Nurse Practitioner. In total this year will be 22 years. I spent 9 years at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital as a Respiratory Therapists and then another three years as a beside nursing in the Pediatric Intensive Care as primarily a cardiac recovery nurse. The last ten years I have split my time practicing in primary care offices in rural areas to obtain a well diverse background and improved experience level and now my focus is in long term/skilled nursing.
SCI: When did you realize that you wanted to work in healthcare?
SE: Science and Biology classes were very intriguing to me and I excelled in these course in high school. I had an illness at a young age which exposed me to many weeks at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital which really helped me with firsthand knowledge of that hospital and medicine in general. Upon entering college I wanted to graduate with the intent of working at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
SCI: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
SE: The most rewarding part of my job has always been helping others. I am blessed to have the opportunity to educate, care for and treat individuals of all ages from this wonderful community. I have had the opportunity to acquire a diverse education and experience during my career.
SCI: What is the most challenging part of your job?
SE: Healthcare traditionally was about the art and science of taking the training you had acquired and applying it for outcomes of the patients. Now it has become so regulated and so much focus has been placed on the insurance companies and excessive documentation for reimbursements. The cost of maintaining a family practice are driving clinicians away from their love of medicine. More and more these regulations are less about being outcome centered for the patient and more about cutting costs
SCI: What is something people might not know about what you do or about the healthcare field in general?
SE: I am a very straight forward clinician. I am caring and honest. I treat everyone with the same level of respect and dignity. I firmly believe it is a partnership in the aspect that the individual seeks the care that my education and training enables me to provide them with the knowledge needed for better health.
SCI: What do you like to do in your free time?
SE: My free time is generally shared with my husband and our two children. I do enjoy crafting and scrapbooking.
SCI: Is there anything else you would like to share with the readers of Smith County Insider?
SE: I would like to thank you the citizens of Smith County for the opportunity to serve them and their loved ones. I am honored to do a job I love in the community I love!
