Smith County Insider’s “Healthcare Heroes” series is our way of spotlighting some of the incredible healthcare workers that serve Smith County.
We know that the bravery, knowledge, and compassion of our local healthcare workers is something to be celebrated, especially in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We can never say thank you enough for what you all do every day!
Today’s Healthcare Hero is Kim Gregory, FNP-BC.
Kim is a Smith County native and the owner and nurse practitioner at Smith County Family Medical, located at 8 New Middleton Hwy in Gordonsville, beside Gordonsville Drugs.
Kim is married to Steven Gregory and they have two amazing children, Owen and Delaney. Kim told Smith County Insider that she has always wanted to live in her hometown and provide the best health care possible.
Kim was nominated for Smith County Insider’s “Healthcare Heroes” spotlight by Rachel Boles and Jonna Roberts. The two said, “She goes above and beyond for each of her patients and treats them more like family than patients.”
We interviewed Kim about her experiences in the healthcare field, and this is what she had to say.
SCI: How long have you worked in the healthcare field?
KG: I graduated from Tennessee Tech University in 2002 with my BSN. I worked has a critical care NICU nurse at St. Thomas Midtown/Baptist Hospital for 6 years. In 2008, I received by MSN in Nursing from Tennessee Tech University and began working as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Smith County.
SCI: When did you realize that you wanted to work in healthcare?
KG: I honestly cannot remember ever wanting to do anything other than healthcare. It has always been my calling. I am so fortunate to love my career.
SCI: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
KG: At the end of the day, I know that I’ve helped my patients to the best of my ability. This makes my heart happy and it feels great to make a difference in my community. I truly care about my patients and their families and value the relationships I form with them.
SCI: What is the most challenging part of your job?
KG: Healthcare is a constantly evolving field. To provide quality care one must never stop studying and learning the new information available. Prime example is this current pandemic. Unfortunately, this is new to all of us and we are learning as we go.
SCI: What is something people might not know about what you do or about the healthcare field in general?
KG: I just want to acknowledge that there are no single healthcare heroes. It takes a full team approach to take care of others in their time of need. I would not be able to do my job without my excellent nurses, supervising physician, pharmacies, radiology services/techs, home health services/nurses, chiropractors, laboratories, custodians, clerical staff, billing specialists and physical therapists. Our whole healthcare systems are remarkable and full of heroes.
SCI: What do you like to do in your free time?
KG: I love to spend time with my family and dog, Ozzy. I also enjoy cooking and spending time at home.
SCI: Is there anything else you would like to share with the readers of Smith County Insider?
KG: This is a truly terrifying and uncertain time in our country. I ask that everyone pray and encourage others with kindness and goodness. We will get through this together and be stronger and wiser as a result. I want to say I really appreciate my staff and all the sacrifices they make for me, the clinic and our patients. We are a small practice, but we have enormous heart and soul for our patients and community. I am truly honored to be nominated as a health care hero.
