Tennessee Health Commissioner Ralph Alvarado, MD, FACP, attended a groundbreaking ceremony today at the Smith County Health Department in South Carthage, TN, to celebrate the state and local partnership investing in renovating the health facility to expand health care access to care for Smith Countians.
“Our focus on access to quality health care and healthcare facilities in Tennessee’s local communities is more important than ever,” Dr. Alvarado said. “Leadership in both the public and private sectors is exactly how we improve the culture of health and healthcare in Tennessee, and how our state becomes the model in the southeast U.S. for meeting the needs of citizens where they live, work, play, and worship.”
The Smith County Health Department is using more than $465,000 in local and state funding to renovate the conference room and add an additional exam room, office, and large supply room.
“We are very excited about the expansion. Our primary care clinic continues to grow, and we have recently added dental services, so the timing is perfect.” said County Director, Michael Railling.
The total funding for the Smith County Health Department’s renovation project includes a $349,000 Tennessee Department of Health allocation with $116,400 in matching funds from Smith County Government.
