September 21, 2018

The Smith County Owls lost to the Livingston Academy Wildcats on Friday night 24-14 in their first road game of the season. The loss drops the Owls record to 1-4 this season.

The Owls were able to find the endzone first, with John Ross Hord running the ball in to complete a 17 play drive to take a 6-0 lead. Livingston was able to bounce back quick to take a 7-6 lead off of a run.

On the next drive, Tanner Marshall ran the ball 70 yards to carry the ball down to the 10 yard line, but the Owls weren’t able to do anything following the run turning the ball over on downs at the 8 yard line. Livingston drove the ball downfield to score with just under a minute left to take a 14-6 lead into halftime.

Livingston opened up the second half scoring with a 37 yard field goal to go up 17-6. Following a failed drive, the Owls were able to stop Livingston and narrow the lead to 17-14 early in the 4th quarter.

The Owls comeback attempt was stopped on the next drive after they were unable to hold Livingston to a field goal, with Livingston going up 24-14 with just over 7 minutes left in the game.

On the following drive, the Owls gave up an interception at the 2 yard line, but allowed Livingston to run the clock down before Smith County was eventually able to force a punt.

The Owls were unable to get much offense going, turning the ball over on downs at the 50 yard line with just over 2 minutes left in the game, and the Wildcats were able to seal the victory from there.

The Owls will look to end their four game losing streak next week when they travel to Sequatchie County in a region matchup.
